UPSEU is urging our members in New York State to call on your local legislators to fix Tier6 of the Employees’ Retirement System, which went into effect in 2012. Unfortunately, Tier6 requires local government and state employees in New York State to pay more for their retirement for a longer period, only to a receive significantly smaller benefit than employees in other pension tiers.
Many of our hardworking and dedicated members have pensions covered under Tier6 and UPSEU believes strongly that Tier6 needs to be fixed immediately, which would bring equity with the other tiers of the Employee’s Retirement System. This is critical to provide an equitable retirement equitable retirement across the public workforce in New York State, as well as for the retention and recruitment of employees in local government positions throughout the state. The time to act for the New York State Legislature is now!
It is vital that the local legislators here directly from employees regarding the need for them to address this inequity related to Tier6 of the Employees’ Retirement System. Please take a moment to call and/or email your local legislators to let them know you are demanding immediate action to fix these inequities on behalf of our public workforce in New York State.
