Dear UPSEU Members, First, I hope you and your families are healthy, as we are without a doubt in difficult times with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. I’m confident that we will be better and stronger in the end. To state the obvious, each of you provide invaluable public services to your local community. It is now imperative that we take a united stand and demand that Congress provide unrestricted aid to our state and municipalities. The reality is that approximately $200 billion is needed nationally for local governments, along with the flexibility in how our state and local governments can use the funds to adapt to a rapidly changing reality, not just to pay for COVID-related expenses. Failure to do so by Congress will simply expand upon the economic crisis we are dealing with and unfortunately many schools and local governments will be forced to deal with budget nightmares that could result in layoffs of our hardworking members and cuts to public services that will negatively impact the quality of services that our members provide daily. To be clear, this has nothing to do with politics; it is 100% the responsible thing to do as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The services that the public sector workers provide and the livelihood of each of you moving forward, should be a priority over political party. To do anything to the contrary, would be unacceptable to say the least! As a result, we are urging each of you to take the time to contact your State Senators and Congressional Representatives by email. Please note that Senate and Congressional offices are currently closed due to the COVID-19 crisis. Therefore, email is the best approach in contacting your State Senators and Congressional Representative. Our members that live in the State of New York, please contact the following State Senators:
Our members that live in the State of Connecticut, please contact the following State Senators:
Our members that live in the State of New Jersey, please contact the following State Senators
Our members that live in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, please contact the following State Senators:
We as well need to have our members reach out to the Congressional Representatives. If you are unaware of who your Congressional Representative is and/or how to contact him/her, please click on the below link and enter your home zip code and you will be provided with that individuals name and contact information (remember email is the best method): Dear ________________, By way of introduction, my name is ________ and I am a union member of the United Public Service Employees Union (UPSEU) and I am dedicated to my job and providing public services to my community. Our state is losing revenue and facing massive unemployment and without immediate federal relief our state will fail. The simple fact is our schools, local governments, and the state need billions in direct and unrestricted aid immediately to prevent disaster. I ask that you demand the President and leaders in Congress to act NOW. Thank you for your time and your anticipated efforts advocating for immediate action. My job depends on it as do the public services that we provide to our community. Respectfully, ______________ Just as our essential workers are putting their communities first, it is time for congress to act NOW to save our schools, local government, and our state. Failure to do so, will result in significant ramifications to the vital public services that you provide daily. All of us at UPSEU are praying for the well-being of you and your family during these difficult times. We are in this together! Yours in Unity,
