UPSEU MT. HOPE POLICE UNIT RATIFY NEW AGREEMENT
By a unanimous vote, the Town of Mount Hope Police Department Officers approved a new three year agreement that will significantly increase pay rates and as well as improve time off benefits.
The negotiating team, led by Executive Vice President Gary M. Hickey and Labor Relations Representative Don Lown, a former police officer himself, did an excellent job in negotiating the unit=s first contract.
The Mount Hope Police Officer unit is the sixth unit of law enforcement officers to join UPSEU in New York in just the past 2 years. The unit was previously unrepresented.
UPSEU is becoming a leader in the negotiations for police officers in New York, which expands on our work on behalf of law enforcement personnel that began several years ago in Connecticut. UPSEU has now developed a New York State C.O.P.S. Division to specifically address the needs of law enforcement and public safety employees.
AOn the brink of arbitration, the Town changed course and decided to address the needs of its police officers, which resulted in an agreement being reached through the mediation process,@ stated Hickey.
Special thanks to negotiating team members, Unit President Peter Baumann, Bruno Gaita and Angelo Vellake for their excellent work on behalf of their fellow officers.
