Oceanside Operations, Maintenance & Security Employees Apprvoe New Agreement
A four year agreement was overwhelmingly approved by UPSEU’s Oceanside members in a vote held August 8, 2007. The vote was 55 to 12 in favor of the agreement.
The agreement will provide annual wage adjustments, a yearly increase to a District funded annuity plan covering all represented employees, and pay for off-shift snow removal.
Two significant issues in negotiations were the District’s proposal to have some employees regularly scheduled on Sundays and to have employees punch in and out for breaks and lunch. After much debate, the District withdrew its proposals, which paved the way in reaching an agreement.
Ron Cleary who headed up the negotiating team for UPSEU, and was assisted by Labor Relations Representative Brian Honahan, stated, “We were not going to back down on either issue, even if it meant going without a contract for a long time. The District clearly understood the determination of UPSEU and the negotiating team, which proved to make the difference.”
The unit was previously represented by CSEA and joined UPSEU after a PERB election.
Congratulations to the negotiating team of Charles Desano, John Pisarri, Jack Cohen, Wayne Miller, James Fahey, Carl Beyer, Edgardo Silva and Anthony Nash for standing firm for an excellent agreement that was reflected in the overwhelming approval of their co-workers.
