On February 26, 2014 in a secret ballot election conducted by the State of Connecticut Board of Labor Relations, the New Fairfield BOE Secretaries unit voted unanimously in a vote of 19-0 to leave CILU and join UPSEU.

Matt Geer of UPSEU stated, "The New Fairfield BOE Secretaries stood strong and united together in choosing a labor organization which will provide exceptional day to day represenatation by voting for UPSEU.  This group of employees, like many others, saw the trend being set in the State of Connecticut with employees joining UPSEU.  They knew they wanted to have the same expertise of UPSEU at the bargaining table as the many other units in the state do, and now they will receive it."
