New York Governor Cuomo has made clear his intent to pursue another tier for the NYERS which would include working longer, paying more and receiving reduced benefits. His plan for a 401K style plan would weaken the existing plan and jeopardize the current pension plan.

The fact is that the average NYSERS pension is less than $18,000. Over three-quarters of all pensions are less than $30,000 annually.

Together with the fact that the NY State Retirement System is the best funded in the entire country, clearly a new tier is not needed.
