The Southington Paraeducators, ABA Therapists, and EL tutors (U.P.S.E.U. - Unit 50), in partnership with the Southington Board of Education, sponsored their annual Dress Down Day and Food Collection Day for Bread for Life, raising over $1,300.00 in monetary donations and food collections. The Southington unit President, Deborah Stevens and Vice President, Suzanne Topper, incorporated their Professional Development Day on 12/21/19 to invite Bread for Life Executive Director, Donna Ayer, and Director of Operations and Volunteer Services, Missy Cipriano, to join their unit for a group photo and check presentation.
In 2018, BFL distributed more than 35,000 meals to the local community and an additional 2,145 lunches in their summer program. Bread for life is an integral part of the Southington community fulfilling their MISSION to provide food, fellowship, and a sense of dignity to those in need. They provide a daily lunch and Wednesday dinner, meals for the homebound as well as grocery deliveries on Fridays for the homebound too. They provide a Mobile Food Pantry and Senior Services to Southington Housing Authority communities, snacks for qualifying Middle School and High School students and a generous summer lunch program to students in need.
The unit looks forward to sponsoring an additional yearly event, for the first time, this Spring, to further advance their commitment to Bread for Life and to help with additional needs that the summer presents. They are proud to partner with Bread for Life and look forward to new ways to strengthen their relationship moving into the future.
