Members ratified a 3 year deal with the Village of Hoosick Falls which includes annual pay increases. Additionally, the contract includes a longevity stipend for 5, 10, 15 and 20 year steps which the unit did not, have as well as increased holiday pay. Congratulations to Nehill Danbury and Thomas Bass on a successful job negotiating their first contract.
After months of negotiations and three meetings with a mediator, the union was finally able to come to an agreement on a 4 year deal. The main sticking point in negotiations was the Village’s attempt to rescind the minimum manning clause. This clause is vital to the safety of members and was vigorously defended by UPSEU. The union refused to relinquish this important benefit and was able to maintain it for another four years. In addition to retaining the manning clause, our members will also receive annual increases over 4 years, increases in sergeant and investigators pay and a stipend for field training officers. The unit also received a signing bonus for each member. Great job by Unit President Mike O’Brien and negotiating team member Jordan Jenks.
Despite the fact that the city has voted to increase taxes by 10% for 2017, the union was able to secure a contract for our members which calls for increases in each year of the deal. Members also received enhancements to retiree health insurance as well as the right to sell back vacation at the end of each year.
UPSEU recently signed a 3 year contract extension with Hudson Valley Community College. The contract includes annual increases and maintains all current benefits with no change including health insurance.
Washington County 911 Communications
Members of the Washington County Communications requested that UPSEU begin negotiations early with the county. The union began negotiations in March for a contract that expires in December of 2017. The move paid off as UPSEU was able to achieve a 3 year deal which increases dispatchers pay significantly. In addition to pay increases, the agreement adds an additional holiday, increased holiday premium pay and increases at all longevity steps. Congratulations to the negotiation team members Les Gordon, Walt Stimpson and Don Stevens.
The union has reached an agreement for Stillwater Police. The agreement calls for hourly wage increase for all patrolman and an increase for Sergeants during the first year of the contract. Thereafter officers will receive annual raises in 2017 and 2018, along with an increase in clothing allowance and 2 additional holidays. Congratulations to Unit President Mike Sharidin.
Members of the Schodack Police recently ratified a new contract which calls for above average increases over the 4 years of the agreement. In addition to the wage increase for officers and dispatchers, longevity and personal leave were increased for dispatchers. Great job by negotiating team members Jon Reickert and Dean Thomas.
The union has reached a 4 year agreement with the town. The contract includes annual wage increases, as well as significant enhancements to sick leave and vacation for our full time members. This contract was the last for long time steward Greg Thorp. Greg was responsible for organizing this group and bringing UPSEU to Windham. Despite fierce opposition from the town, Greg was able to bring the union in and give representation to those who did not have it. Since that time Greg has served as an outstanding steward for the unit. He has ALWAYS put the members first and is a perfect example of what a steward should be. Greg continues to serve the Town of Windham as a police officer, as he has for over 43 years. His dedication and service will be sorely missed by UPSEU and the members that he has served. Thank you Greg for all of your selfless work over the years.
