In two separate secret ballot elections conducted by the Connecticut State Board of Labor Relations on March 10, 2014, UPSEU was overwhelmingly elected as the union of choice.
In the first election, the City of Torrington Supervisors, comprised of 19 unit members, voted overwhelmingly to join UPSEU after years of AFSCMe representation.
In the second election, the North Haven BOE Paraprofessionals, Secretaries, Clerks, Aides and Security Officers voted nearly unanimously to join UPSEU. The unit is comprised of 85 total unit members, who were as well part of AFSCME for many years.
In the combined secret ballot elections, the former union, AFSCME, netted a total of 3 votes. It is clear by the record that the employees were fed up with the lack of representation being provided by AFSCME. These unit members in Torrington and North Haven are excited to begin working together with UPSEU and being provided with a much higher level of representation.
We welcome the City of Torrington Supervisors and the North Haven BOE Paraprofessionals, Secretaries, Clerks, Aides and Security Officers to UPSEU.
